Plantation Tours in Georgetown, SC

On March 22 &23, 2013 , just south of Pawleys Island, some of the most beautiful, historic plantation homes and churches in the Georgetown, South Carolina area will be graciously shared with the Episcopal Church Women of Prince George, Winyah Parish, and will be open for ticket holders between 9:30am– 5pm.

The Sixty-Sixth Annual Plantation Tour offers a different group of pre-Revolutionary and antebellum  homes in downtown Georgetown, on area plantations and even some churches each day. Visitors are invited to the Winyah Indigo Society Hall for tea each afternoon. In the Prince George Parish Hall, home baked goods, original framed art from local artists, books from the Georgetown Historical Society, and the church’s award winning cookbook, PLANTATION TOURS AND TASTES, will be available for sale.

Histories and maps showing the routes for the day are provided with tickets.  Hosts and hostess will be on hand to answer questions concerning the houses that are open. Visitors provide their own transportation.  Only cars and vans are allowed on the tours because of the many low-hanging oak limbs and soft roadbeds.  (no buses)

All Visitors are requested to wear low heeled shoes for their own comfort, as well, as for the protection of the old floors and rugs. You are also reminded that no photographs may be taken inside homes.

For ticket information, visit the website: http://www.pgwinyah.org/

Restaurant Review – Island Cafe & Deli Pawleys Island

My in-laws have been raving about Island Cafe & Deli for years.  It is their “go to” place every time they are in the area.  Their prices are reasonable and the menus are varied.  You can order just about anything form Peanut Butter & Jelly to a Filet Mignon or Shrimp & Grits.  Reading some on of the online reviews will tell you that locals in Myrtle Beach, 20 minutes north, enjoy this establishment. too.  Before rambling on……. check out the menus.

Island Cafe & Deli   US 17, Pawleys Island, SC 29585  843-237-9527

REVIEW FROM MYRTLE BEACH RESTAURANT NEWS:  There are a few long-established area restaurants I haven’t yet visited, and when I finally dine at one such as Island Cafe and Deli in Pawleys Island, I have to ask myself, “What took so long?”

And honestly, a friend and I had planned to visit another south strand restaurant on Oct. 19, but when that plan fell through we decided to check out Island Cafe and Deli. Russell Hardee has been the proprietor since 1988.

The building’s decor is much of the charm with quaint murals depicting its kitchen, staff, customers, food and area waterscapes. Out front is a covered outdoor dining area. Inside a bar is to the right, and to the left is a spacious dining room.  Read more…
