Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort Named to Tennis Magazine’s “Top 50 Tennis Resorts”

Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort has been named once again to Tennis Magazine’s “Top 50 Tennis Resorts” in the United States.

The most recent poll can be found in the November/December issue of the magazine. The biennial rankings have included the resort in each poll since 1992.

The 2010 tennis resort rankings are determined by the magazine’s editors, judge resorts by a number of courts, quality of instruction, clinics and game-matching, plus, lodging, spa availability and overall experience.

“We are very pleased to once again be mentioned among the Top 50 tennis resorts in the country,” said Kristen Prunier, director of tennis at Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort. “Our award-winning staff has worked very hard to create a tennis program that is competitive with any other resort in the country. We have a passion for the game and for providing quality instruction for all of our guests.”

The Litchfield Racquet Club is the largest tennis complex in the Myrtle Beach area featuring 17 superbly maintained Har-Tru courts (clay), four of which are lighted.

The club is operated by a staff of USPTA/USPTR certified tennis professionals who are on hand for assistance and instruction, both private and group.  Daily round robins and “Stroke of the Day” clinics are available year round.

The club also offers a fully stocked pro shop with the latest in tennis equipment, as well as equipment repair and analysis.

In addition to the weekly programming, the racquet club is home to the nationally acclaimed Litchfield Tennis School.  The school has a broad curriculum that can be tailored to suit any player at any level. Three and four day tennis programs are available throughout the year.

A Reason to Visit Pawleys Island: Rejuvination

It’s another weekend, and you and your significant other are looking at each other and thinking…what should we do? How about a nice romantic weekend to Pawleys Island, South Carolina? Pawleys Island, which is situated in what is called the Hammock Coast in South Carolina, has been an idyllic place for those seeking refuge from the worries and cares of everyday life. Even though Pawleys Island is only 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, it is truly a world apart. Once you drive across the causeway onto the island, it’s like stepping back in time.

Miles of white, sandy beaches for walking and collecting seashells, ocean and creeks for fishing and swimming, gentle breezes for sailing and napping in rope hammocks after lunch, and at the end of each day, glorious sunsets. The area surrounding Pawleys Island is a mecca for golfers, with dozens of world-class golf courses close by. Dining abounds as well, ranging from family-oriented to quaint bistros gourmet dining.

Today, with a mix of centuries-old beach-front cottages and modern resort-style accommodations, the places to stay are limitless. Our recommendation for that romantic couples getaway is The Litchfield by the Sea. The Litchfield by the Sea offers a quiet setting in a gated community with a variety of lodging options. We recommend Lakeside Villas. The Litchfield resort offers an onsite Starbucks, restaurants, a lazy river ppol, private beach access, tennis courts and more.

Now that the accommodations have been taken care of, where to eat and what to do? If the beach or golf are not your thing, there are several activities you can enjoy that will fill your days. Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark with the most significant collection of 19th and 20th century figurative sculpture exhibited among 2,000 species of plants by artists such as Frederic Remington, Daniel Chester French and Mrs. Huntington. Developed in the 1930s by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington on the site of four colonial rice plantations, native animals and birds can be seen in a wildlife park, and special guided nature cruises and kayak trips wind through the tidal creeks and abandoned rice fields for a closer peek at the area’s history and wildlife.

Located in the heart of Georgetown’s Historic District, visit the Kaminski House and The Georgetown County Museum. The Kaminski House was built about 1769, and contains an outstanding collection of American and English antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries. The Georgetown County Museum displays more than 300 years of history and culture in the third oldest city in South Carolina. Then, stop in the The Gullah O’oman Shop, owned by Bunny and Andrew Rodrigues, and shop for some of the best of the low country’s crafts: Gullah collectibles, story quilts, lectures & seminars on Gullah history and culture, sweet grass baskets, dolls, wood carvings, black collectibles & memorabilia, art, antiques, African artifacts, books. historical papers & documents, tours, genealogical research.

In Pawleys Island, you’ll find dining in quaint restaurants and bistros surrounded by centuries-old Live Oaks as memorable as it is delicious. At The Mayor’s House Restaurant, you can dine on creative southern dishes, ribs, steaks, seafood, table side desserts and listen to live blues on Friday & Saturday. For something a little more casual, stop by Roz’s Rice Mill Cafe for the freshest of ingredients in soups, salads and sandwiches, country shrimp salad, Chutney chicken salad, black bean and artichoke cakes and crab cakes. And there is always the local favorite, Pawleys Island Tavern (aka The PIT), home of shrimp, beer and blues!

Whether you go by plane, train or automobile, a couples weekend to Pawley’s Island in South Carolina will revive and rejuvenate the soul and the mind.
