Winter: Things to Do in Pawleys Island

Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort is a popular place for snow birds to take refuge for the winter. Not only is the beach gorgeous in wintertime, but you don’t have to fight the crowds while you enjoy some of your favorite attractions in Litchfield and Pawleys Island.

Wondering what to do while you’re here over the winter? We’ve got plenty of ideas! Here are a few of our favorites:

•    Go shopping!

There is plenty of great shopping to be found in Litchfield and Pawleys Island. We tend to start at the Hammock Shops—you can wander for hours and never get bored, and you can pick up much more than just a rope hammock. There are also quirky and unique boutiques, and if you get hungry, great restaurants. And don’t forget to stop at Litchfield Books, one of the only independently owned bookstores on the Grand Strand!

•    Explore culinary delights.

One of our favorite afternoon pastimes is simply to head over to Fresh Market and wander. We’re always inspired to do something different for dinner by the unusual ingredients and treats. Sometimes we’ll just come back with an unusual cheese to nibble on with wine on another laid back Litchfield evening.

•    Visit Brookgreen.

Brookgreen Gardens is absolutely lovely in the winter. You may have to wear some extra layers, but it’s worth it to catch Brookgreen by candlelight during Nights of a Thousand Candles, which will be held this year on Dec. 5-7, 12-14, and 19-21. But even if you don’t make that event, Brookgreen is still a great place to visit. The camellias begin blooming in December, and of you visit later in the season, you may also be able to catch some of the early spring flowers, such as daphne (which can bloom as early as January), daffodils, dogwoods, azaleas and even tulips.

These are just a few of our favorite ideas, and we haven’t even started with exploring farther afield to Murrells Inlet, Garden City or Georgetown. Really, when you visit Litchfield Beach in winter, it’s up to you—you can do as much, or as little as you’d like!

Restaurant Review: Roz’s Rice Mill Cafe

Rosalind Wyndham has been serving fine food for the Grand Strand and Waccamaw Neck area for over twenty years and looks forward to the next twenty years.

Roz’s Rice Mill Café is a unique little restaurant located in the Hammock Shop Complex in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.  Roz opened in 1997 and has built quite a reputation for a quaint little restaurant with a large lunch crowd.  The atmosphere of the porch and the interior is great.  You can eat inside or outside, lite or heavy, just soup, just salad, just dessert, or even just coffee.  Everything is made fresh daily and they have many different items to choose from.  They offer three varieties of freshly prepared soups daily.

Their salads range from Blackbean and Artichoke cakes to grilled portabella mushroom salads.

The sandwiches are huge and range from grilled chicken panini on tomato basil foccacia to fresh baked turkey breast.

Now lets talk about their desserts.  These made fresh daily desserts are mouth watering to just read them on the daily specials board.

Roz’s also offers on-premise catering at Roz’s Rice Mill Café or off-premise catering at your location of choice.  Roz says to “make your food as memorable as the occasion.”    You can’t go wrong with this restaurant.  Unique Soups, Salads & Sandwiches.  A local’s favorite!
