Restaurant Review – Island Cafe & Deli Pawleys Island

My in-laws have been raving about Island Cafe & Deli for years.  It is their “go to” place every time they are in the area.  Their prices are reasonable and the menus are varied.  You can order just about anything form Peanut Butter & Jelly to a Filet Mignon or Shrimp & Grits.  Reading some on of the online reviews will tell you that locals in Myrtle Beach, 20 minutes north, enjoy this establishment. too.  Before rambling on……. check out the menus.

REVIEW FROM MYRTLE BEACH RESTAURANT NEWS:  There are a few long-established area restaurants I haven’t yet visited, and when I finally dine at one such as Island Cafe and Deli in Pawleys Island, I have to ask myself, “What took so long?”

And honestly, a friend and I had planned to visit another south strand restaurant on Oct. 19, but when that plan fell through we decided to check out Island Cafe and Deli. Russell Hardee has been the proprietor since 1988.

The building’s decor is much of the charm with quaint murals depicting its kitchen, staff, customers, food and area waterscapes. Out front is a covered outdoor dining area. Inside a bar is to the right, and to the left is a spacious dining room.  Read more…

Owners Sean and Camille Hayes are originally from Buffalo, New York . They come from a  retail background and were lured to Pawleys Island by their adult children who live in Murrells Inlet.  Another reason to move to a warmer climate  is that the Hayes are expecting their first grandchild on Christmas Day.

Restaurant Review: New York Diner

The New York Diner in Murrells Inlet reopened this week after a fire in August 2009.

The interior was completely remodeled and has new booths, new counters and even a new mural on the ceiling depicting a blue sky, clouds and sun. The diner at 920 Inlet Square Drive serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and owner, George Georghiou was relieved his customers came back.

The diners certainly can’t complain about a lack of choices. The new menu is exhaustive, and the cover states, “All Baking Done On Premises.”

Children have their own menu with modestly priced plates, and adults can have a glass of wine.

New York Diner is open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the number is (843) 651-0280.

Landolfi’s Italian Bakery & Deli

I noticed a lot of searches for this popular spot and decided to investigate.  This is what I learned:

Another family owned spot you don’t want to miss. The pizza is great, wood fired oven, and it is made for an individual so you can get on it what you like, even anchovies (YUM!). But…the best comes last…the deserts are all home made on the spot…chocolate decadence will cure your chocolate craving for at least a year! Nice folks, great outside bar and lounge…and the onwer is the biggest Philadelphia Flyers fan in the world!
