Horse Drawn Carriage Tours in Georgetown?

The tram and walking tours used to help visitors  see and learn more about the City of Georgetown could soon be joined by horse-drawn carriages.

This week, the Georgetown City Planning Commission will consider an ordinance that would regulate horse drawn carriage tours.

The action being taken because the city has received some inquiries from individuals who would like to operate such a service in the Historic District, said City Planner Elizabeth Tucker.

One of the questions the new ordinance will have to answer is where the horses will be allowed.  However, loading and unloading of passengers will not be allowed on city-owned property.

If such a tour is started in Georgetown, the carriage design must be approved by the city’s Architectural Review Board. No advertising will be allowed on the carriages.

The proposed ordinance also stipulates the tours will have to be halted anytime the temperature exceeds 95 degrees
