Live Performances on the Welcome Center Lawn

Square Dances
Sally Gomez will call square dances for all ages with the accompaniment of country guitarist Dan Marcinkiewicz. With the hokey pokey and beyond Sally and Dan will facilitate dancing fun for the whole family. Dances are Saturday 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday 1-2 p.m.

Mystic Vibrations
Known for their uplifting stage performances and original music compositions, Mystic Vibrations brings Reggae rhythms to Brookgreen on Saturday from 3:30-5 p.m.

Down Home
Doug Fankhauser on guitar and Robert Napier on fiddle play a foot-stomping blend of Western Swing, Bluegrass, and Country music on Sunday from 11a.m. -12 p.m. and 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.

All Day Activities on the Welcome Center Lawn

Hay Rides
Hayrides depart from the Welcome Center Lawn area every half hour from 10 a.m. – 4p.m. Tickets are $3 in addition to garden admission.

Pumpkin Painting Patch
Purchase your pumpkin and we supply the paints and brushes. Pumpkins: small- $4, large- $8 in addition to garden admission.

Face Painting
Free with garden admission

Scarecrow Row
Bring your old clothes and Brookgreen supplies the straw, string and poles and build your own scarecrow. Pictures of most original Scarecrows from each day will be posted on Brookgreen Facebook the following week. Purchase your creation and take it home for only $5.

Activities at the Lowcountry Center and Zoo

Ron Daise Storytelling
Join Ron Daise, Brookgreen’s Vice President for Creative Education, at the E. Craig Wall Lowcountry Center for scary and humorous tales, from hair-raising “told” stories about hags and “peculiar such things” to “read” stories like Sam and the Tigers. Story times are – Saturday 10 -10:30 a.m., 12 -12:30 p.m., and 2 – 2:30 p.m. and on Sunday 12 -12:30 p.m.; 2 – 2:30 p.m.; and 3:30 – 4 p.m.

Wool Spinning
Saturday and Sunday outside the Campbell Sculpture Center, join Pam Mahany for wool spinning demonstrations from 10:30 -12:30p.m. and 1:30 – 4p.m.

Marsh Tacky Horse Demonstrations
David Grant from Carolina Marsh Tacky Outdoors will display Marsh Tacky horses and talk about how and why they were recently named the State Heritage Horse of South Carolina. Team Marsh Tacky will saddle up and ride at various times during the day, displaying this breed’s calm and easy going nature, as well as the horse’s natural athleticism. Guests will be allowed to pet and meet these Spanish Colonial horses and say they’ve touched a piece of South Carolina’s history. Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. in the field next to the new Butterfly House.

Hayrides on the Creek and Trekker Excursions
Be sure to purchase your tickets at the Lowcountry Center for the Hay Ride on the Creek and Trekker Excursions to Laurel Hill. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Colonial Camp
Colonial-attired artisans from Dunn, N.C. set up a Colonial camp and provide interactive activities for children and adults to experience the daily life during the early 18th century. It is a wonderful way outside the classroom to learn about our Colonial heritage. Colonial Camp Schedule of Activities:

10 a.m.- Candle Making, Block Printing and Colonial Games

11a.m. – Knot Tying, Punch and Judy (interactive puppet show), and Colonial Games

12 p.m. – Candle Making, Bracelet Making, and Colonial Games

1 p.m. – Cord Making, Doll Making, and Colonial Games

2 p.m. – Candle Making, Punch and Judy, and Colonial Games

3 p.m. – Block Printing, Knot Tying, and Colonial Games

4 p.m. – Candle Making, Doll Making, and Colonial Games
